LITTLE STIRRUPS - Parent/Child Horseback Riding Class
As a team, you and your child will learn all about the wonderful world of horses. Together, you will experience everything from the feel of your horse's fuzzy muzzle to the giggles of excitement during your child's first trotting steps in the saddle.
Learning how to brush your horse, put the saddle on its back and tell it how to stop, go and turn are some of the things your child will be learning in the very first class. Rocky Branch horses are generous, patient and sweet natured.
Your child will also be taking a riding adventure outdoors in a one-of-a-kind equestrian obstacle course, traveling over bridges, hills and through a horseback riding maze.
We invite you to bring your family and friends so they can experience your grand finale by watching your young rider demonstrate their new skills and be presented with a beautiful rosette award ribbon on the last day of class.
Each young rider will need to be accompanied by an adult who will participate in each class by helping to brush, saddle-up and lead the horse while the child is riding.
Ages 4 and up. CECK919 Saturdays- 1:00 - 2:30 (4 classes each session) Sessions Run: Spring/Summer/Fall Fee $99 (2011)
Saddle Club
Ten levels to take you from whoa to go!
Working together with friends you know.
With Rocky Branch Saddle Club the fun begins,
riding together everyone wins!
Saddle Clubs 10 level program takes students from beginner to accomplished equestrian. Each level is a set of building blocks combining riding skills and horse care knowledge such as: How much oats to feed a horse? What's the difference between hay and straw? How do I clean my horse's hooves? How to feed an apple to a horse?
Riding activities include playing games on horseback, riding bareback, navigating hills and bridges and a life-size riding maze. Choose an English or western saddle? Saddle Club riders know all the bits and buckles, and ride both styles with confidence. By participating in consecutive 4-week sessions, and completing the 10 levels, riders have the opportunity to graduate as an assistant riding instructor! As each level is completed riders are awarded a merit pin to proudly wear on their club jacket.
Special activities include arts and crafts, demonstrations from a professional horse trainer, and helping the veterinarian or horse-shoer. Saddle club incorporates the riding handbook," Happy Horsemanship." Which is available for purchase along with club Jackets and riding Helmets. At Saddle Club, riders will have fun building equestrian skills while riding, playing, and learning together with friends.

Campers will also experience the excitement of learning how to trot on our patient, kind-hearted lesson horses.
Campers may bring a disposable camera to capture their memories and experiences, especially on give your horse a bubble bath day. Learning about horse anatomy is fun while campers create their own horse sculpture during daily arts and crafts. Games include a scavenger hunt, collecting horseshoes, bridle bits, and halters for game prizes.
Campers will be inviting family and friends on the last day of camp for a riding demonstration and stable tour. Campers have become such expert equestrians, that they will be the tour guides for their guests and friends! The tour will give guests a behind-the-scenes look at Rocky Branch Stables. Lewis and Clark horseback riding teacher Lesa Teepe began riding as a very young child on her pony Tinkerbell. "She was a comical little pony that loved to sip lemonade from a cup! Tinkerbell taught me patience and kindness. Two qualities which I instill to this very day" Horses bring out the best in kids by teaching confidence and building self-esteem all while having fun. "You will not only learn how to ride, but also how to halter and lead your horse, properly groom its coat and learn how to saddle and bridle, all with safety as our number one priority."
Lesa has a Bachelor's Degree in Education having taught children with disabilities as a public school teacher. "I believe that having a fun atmosphere helps children learn best and nothing could be more enriching than horses." Lesa has been involved with show horses since 1980 and also earrned a state championship. She began giving public riding lessons in 1988. "I feel blessed that I have a job that I love."
When not teaching or helping to care for the 40+ horses boarded at their family-owned business, Lesa enjoys competing in the equestrian sport of Dressage on her Arabian horse. Dressage is precision riding with intricate maneuvers, like competitive dancing. Rocky Branch has begun hosting Dressage shows in 2009. " I loved seeing the excitement in the riders faces, 34 in all, as they performed their solo rides in front of family and friends in the spirit of competition! " Lesa is also an advocate for pet rescue and adoption with the 5A Animal Shelter. Rocky Branch Stables has hosted charity horse shows to raise funds for homeless pets.
